Unicorn Brush: A Playful Display Font for Creative Branding

I was staring at a blank brand board one morning, sipping my coffee and trying to find the right tone for a new client—a cozy boutique selling handmade candles and natural skincare products. The challenge was to create something that felt both modern and whimsical, professional yet approachable. That’s when I stumbled upon Unicorn Brush, a display font with an unmistakable charm.

At first glance, Unicorn Brush stood out with its soft curves and playful strokes. It had this casual, almost hand-drawn feel that made it look like it could be scribbled on a chalkboard or etched into a wooden sign. But it wasn’t just cute—it had a certain elegance too, which hinted that it could work well in more polished contexts. I decided to test it out on a few mockups.

Testing the Font in Real-World Scenarios

I started by applying Unicorn Brush to the logo concept. The client wanted something memorable but not too over-the-top. I used it as the primary text for the brand name, pairing it with a clean sans serif font for the tagline. The contrast worked surprisingly well—the boldness of Unicorn Brush gave the brand personality, while the sans serif kept things grounded.

Next, I tried it on packaging mockups. The candle labels needed to stand out on a white background, and Unicorn Brush did exactly that. Its unique shapes caught the eye without being overwhelming. I even experimented with using it on product stickers and small labels, where its legibility shone through despite the compact size.

Then came the social media graphics. The client wanted a consistent look across platforms, so I used Unicorn Brush for headlines and captions alike. On Instagram posts, it added a friendly, inviting vibe that matched the brand’s tone perfectly. For website headers, I found that it worked best in short bursts—like hero sections or call-to-action buttons—where its visual impact could be maximized without cluttering the page.

Designing with Unicorn Brush: Practical Insights

One thing I noticed early on was how well Unicorn Brush played with other fonts. When paired with a serif typeface, it created a nice balance between traditional and contemporary. For instance, using it alongside a classic serif font on a brochure design gave the piece a refined yet fun aesthetic. Similarly, combining it with a minimalist sans serif for digital assets helped maintain a modern edge.

Readability was another factor I considered. While Unicorn Brush is undeniably stylized, it still holds up well in most scenarios. It works best for short-form text, such as headlines, titles, and logos, rather than long paragraphs. That makes it ideal for brand identity projects where visual hierarchy is key.

I also checked the font’s versatility. It came with several styles and alternates, allowing for subtle variations in the brand materials. This flexibility meant I could use it consistently across different mediums—from business cards to large banners—without losing its character.

Another consideration was licensing. Since the client intended to use the font in commercial print and digital materials, I made sure to confirm that Unicorn Brush had proper commercial usage rights. This ensured that the final brand system would be fully compliant and ready for launch.

Bringing It All Together: A Cohesive Brand Identity

By the time I reached the final brand materials, Unicorn Brush had become a central element of the identity. It appeared on the logo, packaging, website headers, and even in the email templates. The result was a cohesive look that felt both fresh and trustworthy.

The client loved how it conveyed their brand’s personality—playful, creative, and rooted in craftsmanship. It wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about creating a connection with the audience. The font helped tell a story, making the brand feel more personal and relatable.

As I wrapped up the project, I realized that Unicorn Brush had done more than just add visual flair. It had helped shape the entire brand narrative, reinforcing the message and values behind the business. And that, I think, is what makes a great font—one that doesn’t just look good, but feels right.

If you’re working on a branding project that needs a touch of creativity and a hint of whimsy, give Unicorn Brush a try. It might just be the perfect fit for your next design challenge.
